We were given an assignment at school to design a new beer bottle label for Kråkö Bryggeri. The label needed to tell a story related to a place in Porvoo, and this story should be reflected in both the illustration and the name. The label was required to be modern and youthful, and the goal was to take a bold, fresh perspective from outside the Old Town. We were not allowed to use elements from the brewery’s existing labels; instead, we had to create something entirely new.
I chose the Porvoo Castle as my source of inspiration. I was drawn to the beautiful statues outside the building. I also noticed that the lower part of the statues featured a letter "C," which I assumed was related to the Porvoo coat of arms. In my mind, I envisioned the statues as guardians, and I decided to base my concept on this theme. The character I created became a kind of guardian of Porvoo.
I drew the character featured on the label myself, as well as the "C" letter, which I based on the original statues. I also created an animation to show how the label would look from different angles on the finished product.
